Important Announcements

  • New guideline for correspondence papers: The Board of Governers of Vehicular Technology Society approved the motion from the Publications Committee that all correspondence papers in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology should not excceed 5 pages in the IEEE double-colume typesetting at the initial submission, with the option of one additional page (due to revision) for $220 overlength page charge. Authors are advised to follow this guideline when they submit or revise their papers to this journal for consideration.
  • IEEE mandated that an author has to have a valid ORCID number when submitting papers via Manuscript Central. You can get this number by registering at
  • Overlength page charge is mandatory and authors have to pay US$220 for each additional page after 8 pages (IEEE standardized typesetted pages). Hardcopy will not be published if the charge is not received. Thus, authors are strongly encouraged to take this into consideration during the revision process.
  • Starting in 2016, all papers submitted to this journal for review through Manuscript Central (MC) must be double-columned in the final IEEE typesetting (except fonts no smaller than 10) with maximum page length 15 pages for regular papers and 5 pages for correspondence! All revised papers must follow this guideline as well! A suggested style file by this editorial office can be found here with a sample LaTeX file. You can modify style files from IEEE webstite. Please note that all revised papers must follow this guideline as well! Thus, it is strongly recommended that authors prepare their initial submissions within 13 pages, leaving at least two more pages for possible revisions just in case you have to add more pages to address reviewers' comments!
  • Since we have Connected Vehicle Series, regular submissions belong to this theme may be transferred to CVS with the submission ID change. So please do specify CVS during your submission process if your paper belongs to the area of CVS.
  • As an important notice, since April 2013, we have adopted the new naming for the editorial staff: "editor" is now "editor-in-chief" and "associate editor" is now "editor", which is consistent with other IEEE Transactions.

The IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology is dedicated to vehicular technology. This scholarly journal consists of high-quality technical manuscripts on advances in the state-of-the-art of vehicular technology in the areas of: wireless communications and systems (the use of mobile radios on land, sea, and air), vehicular electronics (the use of electronic or electrical components and systems for control, propulsion, or auxiliary functions), and transportation systems (the use of electronic technology for the control of ground transportation systems). In 2015, we have launched a new series, Connected Vehicles Series, to nurture this emerging technology.

Due to the tremendous growth in the number of submissions, starting in 2015, the Transactions has been published monthly, with special issues/sections, averaging over 400 pages per issue. According to data from the Journal Citation Reports, the TVT ranks among the top journals in the field of electrical and electronics engineering, particularly in telecommunications. This is due to our authors who have contributed their high quality papers to this journal, our reviewers who have evaluated the papers with high efficiency, and our editorial team consisting of highly dedicated volunteers who handle the papers timely and efficiently. For the status of this journal and statistics on the paper review/editorial process, please refer to the TVT Editorials (Jan 2014, Jan 2015) or the TVT Status Reports (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016,). The annual subscription fee is $22 to VTS members.

Both theoretical contributions (including new techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions (including system experiments, prototypes, and new applications) are encouraged. There are two categories of papers: Regular Papers for major technical contributions of archival value; and Correspondences for new enhancement of previously published work, statements of open problems, comments on published papers, and corrections.
